The Jack Fire, burning on the Umpqua National Forest, remains 35 percent contained, with a slight increase in acreage.

An update from the Northwest Incident Management Team 9 said the fire is at 16,764 acres. 827 people are working on the fire incident.

North of Highway 138E, the focus of Sunday’s effort was to reduce the chance of the fire moving past containment lines by mopping up and securing lines. Along the northern flank, firefighters are continuing burn operations to increase depth along fire lines.

South of Highway 138E, firefighters continue burnout operations to build primary line on the west and southwest flanks. Along the southern flank, crews will continue to utilize heavy machinery to clear and brush out roads used as control lines. Crews are also scouting for alternative lines for the possibility of creating a smaller footprint. Contingency line construction continues with the primary focus being to utilize existing roads as much as possible.

The update said crews continue to mop-up and patrol around structures in the Dry Creek area and around Horseshoe Bend Campground.

Evacuation locations and levels updated on Wednesday are unchanged. Highway 138E remains open.
