Help from the public has led to the recovery of Sutherlin’s historic steam locomotive whistle in Redding, California.

A Sutherlin Police Department release said the whistle had been cut from the city’s 1921 Cooke Oil-Fired Steam Locomotive on September 15th.

SPD Captain Dennis Chrisenbery said witnesses in Redding who saw the original press release regarding the case, came forward with new information that was shared with SPD investigators. Chrisenbery said acting on that information, SPD coordinated with the Redding Police Department who located and recovered the stolen whistle.

Chrisenbery thanks the Redding Police Department for their support and hard work on the case.
