A Roseburg man was jailed after allegedly eluding police on Saturday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said the 39-year old man left a residence in the 600 block of Kent Creek Road near Winston at about 4:00 p.m. as a deputy was driving by. The man appeared to take off at a high rate of speed. The deputy pursued the man eventually catching up with him near the intersection of Highway 99 and Brockway Road.

The report said the suspect told the deputy that he was trying to get away because he had a syringe in his pocket which had heroin in it. The suspect was charged with attempting to elude police, reckless driving and for driving while suspended. He was released from custody on Monday.
