20 more people have received positive test results for COVID-19 in Douglas County, as of Tuesday.

An update from the Douglas County COVID-19 Response Team said the total number of cases is now at 517, with 81 of those cases reported since last Friday. The update said the new cases are due to a large number of people attending social events and other events, while not following COVID-19 guidelines for social distancing, and not wearing a mask while with others. This includes crowding in small rooms or in small areas to attend birthday parties, Halloween celebrations, weddings, baby showers and other social gatherings. If one person who attends the event is sick, then they take can infect the entire group. DPHN said attendees from that event take it home to their families and then it’s passed on to co-workers, classmates, customers and the community. The update said health officials are asking residents to delay in-person parties, events and meetings until a later date.

Of the 517 cases, 459 are people that have received positive test results and 58 are presumptive.  There have been 10 deaths. 10 Douglas County COVID-19 patients are being hospitalized locally. 127 people are in isolation. 559 people are in quarantine. That means the staff with the Douglas Public Health Network are supporting 686 people that are in either isolation or quarantine. 16,709 people have tested negative for COVID-19 locally.
