A Myrtle Creek man was jailed on weapons charges after he allegedly discharged a firearm on Monday afternoon.

Sergeant Brad O’Dell of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said at 5:00 p.m. dispatchers received a call from a man that stated 60-year old Charles Jones had pointed a firearm at him in the 11,000 block of North Myrtle Road. The caller told dispatchers that Jones had shot the caller’s pickup as he tried to leave the area.

O’Dell said deputies contacted the victim and saw apparent gunshot damage to the back of the person’s pickup, consistent with a shotgun blast. They also observed a shotgun shell wad. Broken pieces of the victim’s taillight were found at the scene where the shooting reportedly took place.

O’Dell said deputies obtained a search warrant and served it at Jones’ home. During the execution of the search warrant a shotgun and two spent shotgun shells were allegedly located.

Jones was charged with unlawful use of a weapon, menacing, pointing a firearm at another, reckless endangering, and second degree counts of disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. Bail was set at $77,500.

O’Dell said anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact DCSO at 440-4471.
