April 8, 2020 3:45 a.m.
Douglas County Public Health Officer Dr. Bob Dannenhoffer is one of 8 people named to Governor Kate Brown’s new Medical Advisory Panel.
A release from Brown said the panel includes a group of doctors, infectious disease experts, and medical professionals from across the state who will review the status of COVID-19 in Oregon and make recommendations on future response efforts.
The release said recognizing that this is a challenge unlike anything Oregon’s medical community has ever faced, the advisors have been asked to comment on the needs of Oregon’s health care system. They will also provide advice and input to the Governor and serve as the resource to the Oregon Health Authority. The panel will be an avenue for Oregon’s provider community to give regular, organized input and feedback about the state’s COVID-19 response, according to the release.
The panel will meet twice weekly and review Oregon’s response efforts in the areas of testing capacity, hospital capacity, personal protective equipment acquisition, and the continued effectiveness of social distancing measures.
Along with Dr. Dannenhoffer, the panel includes:
*Dr. Renee Edwards, Chief Medical Officer for Oregon Health and Science University
*Dr. Robert Pelz, Infectious Disease and Critical Care for PeaceHealth
*Dr. Paul Lewis, Pediatric Infectious Disease for Kaiser Permanente
*Dr. Bruce Goldberg, Family Medicine at the OHSU-Portland State University School of Public Health
*RN Susan King, former Executive Director of Oregon Nurses Association
*Dr. Louis D’Avignon, Pulmonology and Critical Care for St. Charles Health System and Summit Medical Group of Oregon
*Dr. Dana Hargunani, Chief Medical Officer for the Oregon Health Authority
