Fire crews around Douglas County are facing a shortage of personal protective equipment needed to keep them safe as they interact with the public.
A release from Fire Chief Rob Bullock of Douglas County Fire District No. 2 said in response to the COVID-19 virus, emergency responders are required to wear a specific level of that equipment in order to avoid exposure.
Bullock said due to the nationwide shortage, crews are going to have to be resourceful and may be forced to utilize equipment not normally used for these situations. Pictures posted with this story at www.541radio.com show examples of some of the personal protective equipment residents may see responders wearing.
Bullock said fire departments are doing everything they can to keep responders healthy and available to provide the service that residents deserve.
