Three people running for positions in Douglas County government will face no opposition in November.
Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin is seeking another term in office. County Clerk Daniel Loomis, appointed to finish the term of Patricia Hitt following her retirement, is running for a four-year term.
Sam Lee filed last week to run for the job of Douglas County Treasurer. Lee has been a financial advisor for 13 years working at Smith Barney before moving to D.A. Davidson. He then co-founded Western Financial. His previous political experience includes the Lookingglass Olalla Water District Board, Winston Dillard School Board, the Oregon School Board and as a delegate to the National School Board Association. Lee told News Radio 1240 KQEN that he filed last week after County Commissioner Tom Kress asked him run for the position. Lee plans to continue with Western Financial after he takes over as Treasurer.
Current treasurer Richard Filley told News Radio 1240 KQEN that while he is of retirement age, he plans to leave office, but will continue running his business Colt Mortgage, out of his home. Filley moved the business from its longtime downtown Roseburg location when he took the position of treasurer, following his election in 2016.
Interim Clerk Daniel Loomis said all three county positions would not have appeared on the May Primary ballot unless three or more people were seeking a particular position. That is due to wording in the Oregon State Constitution.
