Following Tuesday’s deadline to file as a candidate for the May Primary Election, those running for the Oregon State Legislature in the area are now finalized.
State Senator Dallas Heard is the lone Republican candidate for the Senate District One seat. There are two candidates on the Democratic side. Les Goodrich is a licensed journeyman electrician who lives in Brookings. He is currently not employed and has no prior governmental experience. Kat Stone lives in Roseburg and is a registered nurse with 20 years of administrative nursing experience. Her filing statement with the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office said she has eleven years each of experience working at Mercy Medical Center and at Plant One of Roseburg Forest Products. Stone is on the board of the Douglas County Transportation District and the budget board of the Roberts Creek Water District. Both challengers filed on Tuesday.
In the race for State Representative in House District Two, incumbent Gary Leif has no GOP challengers. Longtime Roseburg Attorney Charles Lee is the only Democrat to file for the seat. Lee was a Deputy District Attorney from 1975 to 1987. He has been in private practice since then. Lee has been a member of the Roseburg School Board since 1996.
In House District Seven, Cedric Hayden is unopposed for the Republican nomination. The dentist and rancher with a small business background, has been a legislator for six years. On the Democratic Side, Hayden will face Jerry Sanmaniego in November. Sanmaniego works as an Oregon Licensed Renewable Technician for Energy Design Company in Eugene. He lists no prior governmental experience.
For the House District One race, November will be a race between incumbent David Brock Smith and Democrat Calla Felicity. Brock Smith is a former Curry County Commissioner who has also worked as a Development Director and a small business owner. Felicity is retired and listed experience as a business owner and a paralegal. No prior governmental experience is listed on the filing.
