Three potential measures that backers hope to get in front of voters in Douglas County may be moving forward soon.
Douglas County Clerk Daniel Loomis told News Radio 1240 KQEN that the initiative petition titled, “Expand the Idaho State Border to include Douglas County” was published in the News Review on February 19th and a seven-day period to challenge it will end on Thursday. Loomis said if no challenges are received at the District Courts by 5:00 p.m. that day and if the chief petitioners have filed a Statement of Organization with the State Elections Division, the Clerk’s Office will review the cover and signature sheets and approve the petition to circulate. Backers “Move Oregon’s Border for a Greater Idaho” will have two years to gather a minimum of 2,955 signatures to get the proposal on a future ballot.
Loomis said bond measures for both the Roseburg and Sutherlin school districts were also published in the News Review the same day as the first measure. Just as in the first case, if no challenges are received by the deadline the proposal can advance. In the case of the school measures, each district will need to submit a final ballot title on a Notice of Measure Election form. Advocates for both proposals are seeking to place the measures on the May Primary Election ballot.
Loomis told KQEN he expects there may be additional district petitions yet to come.
