Chuck McCullum, owner of Chuck’s Texaco for decades, passed away early Thursday.
The news was announced on the station’s Facebook page.
The post said, “Our community has lost a wonderful man, a pillar of the community, he will be missed by many”. It continued, “Chuck was a wonderful business man providing amazing service and always willing to do what was needed”.
McCullum, started working at the station on Southeast Stephens, in high school, and eventually purchased it. He had owned it for around 58 years. In 2012, the community celebrated the 50th anniversary of Chuck’s ownership of the station. Roseburg Mayor Larry Rich presented Chuck with a plaque and a watch, and cake was shared by those attending a special event, according to information on an older Chuck’s Texaco Facebook page.
Known for rarely missing a day of work, McCullum had quadruple bypass surgery on his heart in 2018. He spent five weeks at Sacred Heart Medical Center at Riverbend in Springfield before returning to the station.
The Chuck’s Texaco post concluded with these words: “Thank you Chuck for your lifetime of dedicated service. Prayers to his family. Rest in peace”.
A person speaking on behalf of the family told News Radio 1240 KQEN that family members appreciate the outpouring of love and support they have received from the community following Chuck’s passing. They said that Chuck’s Texaco will remain open for many years to come.
Chuck McCullum was 75 years of age.
