JORDAN COVE WITHDRAWS REMOVAL-FILL PERMIT APPLICATION

January 24, 2020 10:00 a.m.
The Jordan Cove Energy Project has withdrawn its application for a removal-fill permit.
A release from the Oregon Department of State Lands, said the department was notified in a letter from Jordan Cove on Thursday. Oregon’s removal-fill permit rules allow applicants to withdraw an application at any time prior to the permit decision.
DSL is expected to make a decision on Jordan Cove’s application on January 31st. Earlier this month, Jordan Cove asked for a two-month extension before a decision on the application was made. A letter from DSL Director Vicky Walker said the department “has not received timely and sufficient information to address all outstanding questions”. She said DSL would make their decision “based on the record in front of us” and turned down the request for a delay.
Removal-fill permits are required for projects that remove or fill more than 50 cubic yards of material in the waters of the state or in wetlands. The DSL release said the application withdrawal by Jordan Cove included removal-fill activity related to construction of the proposed LNG terminal, slip and access channel, and pipeline.
When a removal-fill permit application is withdrawn, the application fee is forfeited and the application file is closed. A new application must be submitted for a project to receive any further consideration. The release said the letter from Jordan Cove did not indicate whether submission of a new removal-fill permit application is planned.
