Covering coastal Douglas County:

Staff with the City of Reedsport are warning of bear sightings in that community.

City Recorder Rhonda Bryan said a mother bear with two cubs was spotted in the Bowman Road area. Bryan said other sightings have been close to Lower Umpqua Hospital, on Ranch Road and Ridgeway, and at other locations.

Residents are asked to be “BearWise” by securing garbage and keeping containers indoors until the day of collection, taking down bird feeders during active bear season or hanging them well out of reach, and keeping pet food inside. Doors, windows, and vehicles should be kept locked, so bears do not smell food inside.
