The recent Challenge of the Heros fundraising event in Douglas County raised thousands for CHI Mercy Health and Mercy Foundation.
A release from CHI Mercy Health said that more than $24,000 was raised at restaurants on Sept. 17 throughout Douglas County. The funds will benefit Douglas County Child Abuse Prevention and Human Trafficking Initiatives, funding programs aimed at prevention, awareness, and victim support services within Douglas County.
Mercy Foundation remains committed to working alongside community partners to ensure a safer future for our children.
Local law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs and crisis response partnered with businesses in Roseburg, Glide, Sutherlin, Winston and South County to help raise the funds.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity shown during this year’s Challenge of the Heroes,” said Mercy Foundation Violence Prevention Program Coordinator Marion Pearson. “These funds are vital to our mission of protecting the most vulnerable members of our community. We are incredibly thankful to our first responders, the local restaurants that participated, and every employee and community member who stepped up to support this critical cause.”
Below is a full list of local business and “heroes” that participated in this event:
In Glide: The Glide Rural Fire Protection District partnered with Coho Pizza, 138 Grill, Atom Bistro, and Colliding Rivers Drive In.
In Sutherlin: The Sutherlin Police Department and Oregon State Police were hosted at Dakota Street Pizza, while the Sutherlin Fire Department gathered at the Backside Brewery Outpost.
In Roseburg: The Roseburg Police Department and Roseburg Fire Department joined supporters at Backside Brewery; the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Adapt Mobile Crisis teamed up at Abby’s Pizza; the Cow Creek Police Department and Cow Creek Fire Department paired with Los Dos Amigos Fiesta; and Umpqua Valley Ambulance was hosted by Alexanders Greek Cuisine.
In Winston: The Lookingglass Rural Fire District collaborated with Lookingglass Brewery, while the Winston Police Department and Central Douglas Fire and Rescue connected with community members at Carlos’ Restaurante.
In South County: Personnel from the Myrtle Creek Police Department, Myrtle Creek Fire Department, Riddle Rural Fire Protection, and Canyonville – South Umpqua Fire Department were supported by Grub Slingers, ThunderS’Truck, and Lemon Wrangler.
