Thrive Umpqua is among the organizations hosting a free back-to-school event for families this Saturday, August 22nd. The second annual Back-to-School Bash will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This year the celebration moves to a brand-new home at Umpqua Community College.
A release from Thrive Umpqua said behind the fun is a shared purpose: helping every student walk into the new year ready to succeed. Research consistently links a strong start to the school year with better attendance and stronger academic outcomes — and small barriers can stand in the way. By clearing those hurdles, building students’ confidence, and connecting families to the support and resources they need.
The event will offer free school supplies, raffle prizes including bikes, scooters, laptops, shoe vouchers and gift cards while supplies last. Students can also receive free haircuts. There will be a free lunch catered by Jackson Street Provisions and Smokin’ Fridays, plus cold treats from Umpqua Dairy ice cream and UCC Athletics Shave Ice.
Thrive Umpqua Executive Director Jess Hand said, “No single organization can meet all of a family’s needs, but together we can,” Hand said. “That’s why we’re proud to help coordinate this event alongside so many partners across schools, healthcare, and our community. When we bring everyone to the same table, families walk away with real support—and we hope every student feels the community standing behind them as they head back to school.”
The release said students can also receive no-cost sports physicals and youth vaccines provided by Umpqua Health. There will be several fun activities throughout the day including the Thundering Water WOW Truck, 25 student club and team showcases, along with live performances, games, and family-friendly activities for every age including face painting, caricature drawings, and a photo booth.
There will be free rides to the Bash that will depart from four neighborhood schools including Green Elementary, Joseph Lane Middle School, Eastwood Elementary, and Roseburg High.
The event is also hosted by: Aviva Health Care, Douglas Education Service District, Roseburg Schools, the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians, and Umpqua Health.
