August 17, 2026 4:00 a.m.

The Umpqua National Forest has reduced the Castle Fire closure effective Monday.

A UNF release said the new closure order begins at National Forest Service Road 28 from the junction of NSFR 2823 to French Junction, and NFSR 2823, or the areas known as Little Black Rock and Castle Creek. The closure will impact all trails, roads, and recreation areas within the closure area. The closure will remain in effect until conditions allow for safe reopening.

This new reduced closure does not impact South Umpqua Falls Campground and Day Use Area which has reopened for recreation as of Monday.

Popular recreation sites that remain closed include Castle Creek Trailhead and Castle Creek Trail.

Closure maps and additional details are available at the Umpqua National Forest website: Home | Umpqua National Forest | Forest Service
