Deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a reported reckless burning incident on Sunday evening.

A DCSO report said at 6:15 p.m. a caller said there was a small grass fire at Sunnyslope Elementary School in 2200 block of Cannon Avenue in the Green District. The fire was near the fence line behind the caller’s residence. An approximately 10-year-old male in a bright green shirt was seen near the fire before fleeing down the booth path toward Burdette Drive.

Fire personnel put out the fire before it damaged anything except grass. There were numerous small burnt spots in the grass along the path from Austin Road to where the main fire was located.

Charges of reckless burning and second-degree criminal mischief may follow the investigation.
