Three people were hurt and one was cited in a four-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 4:40 p.m. Oregon State Police and the Roseburg Police Department were attempting to locate a sedan after it had been called in multiple times as a possible DUII driver. Shortly after these calls, deputies responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the 2600 block of Old Highway 99 South, south of Roseburg. Upon arrival, deputies located the four vehicles involved in the collision, including the vehicle driven by the reported DUII driver.
Deputies spoke with the driver of the first vehicle, 63-year-old Maureen Dinneen, and suspected that she was impaired. Dineen performed standard field sobriety tests which she allegedly performed poorly. She was subsequently taken into custody. Deputies applied for and were granted a search warrant for Dineen’s blood, breath, and urine. The blood draw was completed, and a urine sample was also collected. The woman was transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center for an unrelated medical issue and was unable to provide a breath sample. Dineen was cited and released at Mercy on charges of reckless driving, reckless endangering, second-degree assault, and a felony count of driving under the influence of intoxicants.
The drivers of two other vehicles were transported to Mercy. The third driver, an elderly woman, sustained serious injuries and was transferred to a Eugene area medical facility for a higher level of care. The second driver sustained facial injuries from his airbags being deployed. He is no longer hospitalized.
The investigation revealed that Dinneen’s sedan was traveling southbound on Old Highway 99 South. In the 2600 block, her vehicle swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding head on with a second vehicle. From the force of this impact, the second vehicle into the southbound lanes, side-swiping the third vehicle and then rolling onto its side. The second vehicle slid on its side northbound until it collided with the fourth vehicle, which was traveling southbound. The fourth driver was not injured.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office traffic crash reconstruction personnel responded and conducted a reconstruction investigation, due to the criminal nature of the wreck. When this was completed, all vehicles were towed from the scene. Old Highway 99 South was closed for a time during the investigation. The roadway was reopened around 8:30 p.m.
