Adapt Integrated Health Care is recognizing and honoring Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month.
An Adapt release said the month is a time dedicated to raising awareness about the mental health challenges faced by men. This month aims to reduce stigma, encourage open conversations, and promote the importance of mental well-being among men of all ages.
The release said mental health is a critical aspect of overall health yet is often overlooked in men due to societal expectations and stigma. Men are frequently expected to embody strength, stoicism, and self-reliance, which can lead to underreporting of mental health issues and a reluctance to seek help. Statistics show that men are less likely than women to seek help for depression, anxiety, and other mental health problems, often resulting in devastating consequences.
Adapt Chief Executive Officer Dr. Greg Brigham, a Board-Certified Clinical Psychologist said, “Many men may feel that needing or reaching out for emotional or mental health support is a sign of weakness, which results in lower rates of accessing care and needlessly prolonged suffering”. Brigham said, “Mental health support and treatment does improve health and happiness and can make men stronger and more resilient”. Brigham said this month, “…is the perfect time to have a conversation about health with the men you care about”.
