A Camas Valley man was cited following a reported DUII crash early Saturday.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just after 12:00 a.m. 25-year-old James Gibson attempted to drive a passenger home after a bonfire in the mountains. Witnesses followed in a separate vehicle. Gibson’s SUV allegedly went into the east side of the ditch on Westside Road in Camas Valley, causing the man to lose control of his vehicle. The SUV rolled multiple times. Both Gibson and the passenger were ejected.
Gibson told a deputy that he was driving because he wasn’t very intoxicated, and the passenger was more drunk. The passenger appeared to have serious injuries. Both people were transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center. The vehicle was towed from the accident scene. A deputy later obtained Gibson’s blood alcohol level, which registered at 0.267 percent, which is over three times the legal level for intoxication. He was cited for DUII-alcohol, fourth-degree assault, reckless endangering, and reckless driving. Gibson was released after the citation was issued.
