February 24, 2024 6:00 a.m.

A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Sunday evening through Monday evening for higher elevations in parts of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is possible with total snow accumulations of 6 to 14 inches expected. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour.

The Watch applies to the eastern Douglas County foothills, and the south central and southern Oregon Cascades and Siskiyou Mountains. This includes Willamette Pass, Diamond Lake, Crater Lake and Lake of the Woods.  Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible.

Snow levels are forecast at around 5,000 feet as snow begins late Sunday evening. Accumulations before sunrise on Monday will likely be light. The majority of the snowfall is likely Monday through Monday evening with snow levels at 4,000 feet falling steadily to 1,500 feet when snow is tapering off Monday evening.

Drivers in the Watch area during this time period should stock an emergency kit with tire chains, flashlight, batteries, blankets, food, water and medications.
