A Riddle man was jailed after an alleged eluding incident early Monday.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 12:50 a.m. a deputy saw a motorcycle with its light off and no license plate near a business in the 200 block of Pruner Road in the Riddle area. The deputy attempted to stop the rider, identified as 18-year old Andrew Gaskins, at a business on Pruner Road near Interstate 5 but the rider accelerated to a higher rate of speed westbound toward Riddle. Gaskins was not wearing a helmet, so the deputy did not pursue.

The deputy shut off his lights and sirens and followed the motorcycle from a distance, but eventually lost sight of him. Units located the rider again but lost sight of him a second time. While deputies were standing in the parking lot of Riddle City Hall, Gaskins allegedly started riding up and down First Street flipping the deputies off and reportedly yelling obscenities. Gaskins attempted to turn left on Harbor Street when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed.

Gaskins attempted to get back on the motorcycle, but was taken to the ground before he had a chance. Gaskins showed signs of impairment and was transported to corrections for standard field sobriety tests, which he allegedly performed poorly. Gaskins provided a blood alcohol sample of 0.14 percent.

He was charged with DUII alcohol, attempting to elude police in a vehicle, reckless driving, and second-degree disorderly conduct. Gaskins was detained on $4,000 bail.
