Oregon Senate Republicans plan to ask the newly formed Joint Addiction and Community Safety Response Committee to consider a bill referring Measure 110 back to Oregon voters.

A release from Senate Republican Leader Tim Knopp said Oregon’s drug decriminalization experiment has failed to address the state’s drug addiction crisis. Knopp said since its implementation, the number of overdoses has skyrocketed and deadly drug use has soared. Knopp said meanwhile law enforcement has felt alienated and addicts haven’t sought the treatment they desperately need.

Knopp said, “Oregonians have clearly spoken. They don’t feel they were told the whole truth about Measure 110. Not it is the Legislature’s job to hear voters and respond to their concerns”.

Senator Knopp will serve as a member on the new committee, which was announced on Friday.
