A transient was jailed following a trespassing incident just north of Roseburg Thursday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said shortly after 11:00 p.m. a deputy was sent to the 600 block of Plateau Drive after a caller said that two people were trespassing. One of the men was described as wearing a white mask. The deputy contacted a victim as a suspect vehicle was leaving the area. The victim said the driver of that vehicle had been involved in the incident.

The driver was contacted in the parking lot of a business in the 3000 block of Northwest Stewart Parkway in Roseburg. The white mask was in plain view in the passenger seat. Also allegedly located in the vehicle was a meth pipe, theft tools, and a Kimber 45 pistol. The man was missing one shoe.

35-year old Richard Benefiel was taken to jail and disclosed that he had methamphetamine in his underwear. He reportedly gave a large bag of meth to the deputy. The victim was contacted again and reported that he had a flip phone and an iPad stolen from his residence. The suspects missing shoe and other evidence was located.

Benefiel was charged with unlawful possession and distribution of meth, being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon and for second-degree counts of criminal mischief and trespass. He was detained on $7,500 bail.
