A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect above 1,500 feet through 10:00 a.m. Thursday while a Winter Weather Advisory is in place below 1,500 feet through 10:00 a.m. Thursday for much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is expected above 1,500 feet with accumulations of 4 to 8 inches expected, and up to 12 inches forecast above 3,000 feet. Below 1,500 feet, 1 to 4 inches is expected.

This is for central Douglas County, Josephine and Jackson counties and eastern Curry County.

All areas will experience some degree of winter weather impacts. For the Warning area, this includes Interstate 5 passes north of Grants Pass and from Talent south. It also applies to highways 227 and 199 in the Rogue Valley, and Highway 42 at Camas Mountain, Highway 227 south of Tiller, and the foothills within Douglas County. For the Advisory area, this includes the rest of Interstate 5, highways 42 and 138 and the communities of Medford, Grants Pass, Rogue River, Cave Junction, Roseburg and Sutherlin.

Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible at higher elevations and is strongly discouraged. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.
