A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning above 1,500 feet in much of southern Oregon.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service said heavy snow is possible. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches possible over populated and traveled areas with 5 to 10 inches over the higher elevations and mountains. Winds could gust as high as 45 miles per hour over the higher terrain.

Forecasters said the Watch areas includes central Douglas County, Josephine and Jackson counties and eastern Curry County. This includes the lower passes along Interstate 5, highways 42 and 277, and the foothills within all 4 counties.

Travel could be very difficult. Patchy blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Conditions could impact the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes.

Snow levels will drop Tuesday night, so advisories are expected for elevations below 1,500 feet.

Drivers in the Watch areas should carry an emergency kit with tire chains, flashlights, batteries, blankets, food, water and medications.
