Roseburg Police jailed a man following an alleged assault incident on Friday night.

An RPD report said at approximately 7:00 p.m. officers responded to the 1100 block of Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard after a caller said there was a fight at that location. 43-year old Keith Markley allegedly attacked two people while they were getting ready to leave the area.

Markley reportedly had a large flagpole topper made of brass tied to a piece of rope that he used to hit the male victim over the head. The victim was allegedly hit several times, causing several lacerations. The victim said he almost lost consciousness and had to tackle the suspect to the ground. The victim held Markley down until officers arrived. He was seen later at CHI Mercy Medical Center for his injuries.

Markley was charged with assault in the second-degree, attempted assault in the second-degree, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and second-degree disorderly conduct. He was detained without bail.
