Next Monday through Friday, students are encouraged to walk or roll to school.
The weeklong opportunity promoted by Douglas Education Service District’s Safe Routes to School is geared to students in grades K-12 and their families, which includes virtual and homeschool students. Students can choose the nicest day of the week, or get their rain boots and coats.
Students who don’t live near a school are invited to participate for twenty minutes in a safe location such as a neighborhood or a park.
An ESD release said all participants should follow bicycle and pedestrian safety guidelines and are encouraged to participate with a friend or family member. Elementary-aged children and younger should have a responsible caregiver accompany them along their safe route to school.
Participants who register at: https://bit.ly/WinterWalkNRoll will be entered into a drawing to win a new bike, scooter, waterproof boots or umbrella. Winners will be announced February 20th via email and Facebook: www.facebook.com/DoCoSafeRoutes
