A weather system is forecast to bring strong winds from northern California into southern Oregon through Thursday evening.

A release from Pacific Power said high winds and already saturated soil could increase the potential for power outages.

The utility’s meteorology team is closely monitoring the forecast and field personnel are ready to respond to wind-related service interruptions. Forecasts indicate the storm will exit the area by Thursday evening.

Residents should have their home ready with an emergency outage kit that includes:

*Flashlight

*Battery-operated radio and clock

*Extra batteries

*Non-perishable foods

*Manual can opener

*Bottled water

*Blankets

Where the storm hits, residents should stay away from all downed power lines and utility lines. Call 911 immediately and then report it to Pacific Power at 1-877-508-5088. Remember that extensive rain may cause flooding or landslides, so be careful of any standing water or soggy ground when a downed wire line is nearby. Don’t drive over any downed power lines.
