Roseburg Police jailed a man for theft, tampering, drug and warrant charges early Tuesday morning.
An RPD report said 2:50 a.m. officers contacted 32-year-old Brandon Schmidt at the intersection of Northeast Winchester Street and Northeast Odell Avenue. He had allegedly stolen items from a downtown business. Dispatch confirmed that Schmidt had warrants from RPD and Canyonville and took him into custody.
While being transported to correction, Schmidt reportedly attempted to dispose of methamphetamine while in the back of the patrol vehicle. While at corrections, deputies allegedly found additional contraband and the man tried to retrieve it and digest it.
Schmidt was charged with second-degree theft, tampering with evidence, unlawful possession of methamphetamine and for the warrants. Bail was set at $25,000.
