Staff with the Umpqua National Forest and the National Wild Turkey Federation have completed hazard tree work across the forest.
A UNF post said work was done to mitigate hazards and reduce fuel loading. Some woody debris was left as wildlife habitat. This work will improve safety for forest visitors, reduce spread potential, and limit future wildfire intensity. Cull logs and debris generated by implementation were shipped to local facilities, chipped and broadcast in place, or piled for future burning.
This project was completed through a keystone agreement. Umpqua National Forest and the NWTF funded the project. The work was completed by a contractor hired by the NWTF and with oversight from the UNF.
