Oregon Secretary of State Tobias Read said Oregon will not share voter data with the federal government after the U.S. Supreme Court voted to allow the use of a federal voter database on Friday.

In a statement released on Friday, Read said the ruling will have no impact on Oregon’s upcoming election.

“Oregon will not participate in a flawed system that will likely result in eligible voters losing their right to vote,” Read said. “However, today demonstrates that President Trump and his administration will never stop trying to avoid accountability from voters. Voting is a right and we will continue to protect it for all eligible citizens.”

The Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements, or SAVE system, is the Trump Administration’s efforts to verify the eligibility of voters, according to a report from the Associated Press. Use of the program by states is voluntary.
