Following the recent rainfall, Umpqua National Forest is reducing the Fire Danger Level from ‘High’ to ‘Moderate’ and reduce Public Use Restrictions from Stage 2 to No Restrictions, effective at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, September 11th.

A release from the Umpqua National Forest said recent rainfall has improved moisture conditions across the Forest. As a result, campfires in wilderness areas and dispersed campfires are allowed, and personal chainsaw use is allowed at any time, subject to regulations, including a valid permit to cut firewood, which can now be obtained online.

The Industrial Fire Precaution Level is also being reduced to Level 1, beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 14th.

A UNF release said while conditions have improved, visitors are reminded that wildfire potential remains present. Recreators should remember that all campfires need to be dead out before leaving a campsite. Drown, stir, and feel the campfire with the back of the hand. The fire should feel cold to the touch before leaving a campsite.
