COUNTY GOVERNMENT TO CLOSE ON JULY 3RD FOR INDEPENDENCE DAY

June 24, 2026 3:20 a.m.

County Commissioners Tom Kress, Chris Boice and Tim Freeman would like to remind residents that most county government offices will be closed on Friday, July 3, in observance of the American Independence Day Holiday.

A county release said that includes the courthouse, Justice Building, courthouse annex in Reedsport, fairgrounds office and most external government offices.

Even when county government offices are closed, many officials and public employees are still working on special, routine, or emergency projects. That includes the Board of Commissioners, Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Department, Public Works Department, Emergency Management Department, Parks Department, and more.

There are exceptions:

*The Douglas County Museum of History and Natural History in Roseburg will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, but open on Saturday, July 4th. The Umpqua River Lighthouse Museum in Winchester Bay will be open both days for normal business hours.

*For the Douglas County Solid Waste Department, all county operated transfer sites that are typically open on Fridays, as well as the Roseburg landfill, will be open on Friday July 3rd, but closed on Saturday, July 4th.

*Douglas County Senior Services Bistro Sixty Senior Dining Sites and Meals on Wheels program will be closed on Friday, July 3rd. They will resume services on Tuesday, July 7th.

*All county-operated parks, campgrounds, and boat ramps will be open and accessible during the Fourth of July weekend. Salmon Harbor Marina and the Winchester Bay RV park will also be open.

Even though the Sheriff’s Office entrance will be closed on Friday, July 3rd, deputies, communications and DCSO staff will continue to provide law enforcement protection and emergency assistance for residents.
