Roseburg Police jailed a man for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence of intoxicants on Wednesday afternoon.
An RPD report said at 4:40 p.m. officers responded to a traffic crash near the intersection of Highway 183E and Sunshine Road. A sedan had left the roadway and crashed into a fence at Sunshine Park. The driver, 36-year-old Summit Conn, allegedly fled the vehicle immediately after the wreck. Officers located Conn approximately two blocks away and he admitted to being the driver. The man was allegedly visibly intoxicated and admitted to driving before the crash.
Conn also admitted to taking the vehicle from an elderly man at the Roseburg Rescue Mission, without the owner’s permission. Conn performed standard field sobriety tests. Officers contacted the owner of the vehicle, who had been transported to CHI Mercy Medical Center by ambulance for unrelated health issues. It was believed the vehicle was taken around that time.
Conn was also charged with reckless driving, failure to perform the duties of a driver with property damage, and for a probation violation. He was detained without bail. The man was also cited for driving while suspended, failure to drive within a lane and driving uninsured.
