The Douglas County Board of Commissioners have passed a resolution opposing a proposed gas tax measure that is part of the May Primary Election ballot.
A release from the board said the county has previously expressed its opposition to the infrastructure and gas tax at the legislative level. Commissioners noted that measures of significant public interest and impact are traditionally placed on the November General Election ballot to ensure broader voter participation. The resolution said having the proposal on the May Primary Election ballot instead of the November ballot may result in lower voter turnout and limit full public participation in the decision-making process.
The commissioners have reaffirmed their opposition to the proposed infrastructure and gas tax increase and encourage a “no” vote.
The formal statement of opposition was released by the board effective April 1st.
