Roseburg Police cited a man for reckless driving after his sportscar hit a building early Monday morning.
An RPD report said at 12:45 a.m. officers responded to a structure in the 100 block of Northeast Exchange Avenue after a caller said a vehicle had crashed into it. Officers contacted the 55-year-old driver who explained that he knew his vehicles brakes were beginning to go bad, and while driving, he dropped his wallet onto the floor. The man attempted to retrieve it, but when he looked up it was too late to turn, and he could not see well due to dense fog.
The owner of the building provided officers with a video of the incident which showed that the driver was traveling well above the speed limit and could not negotiate the turn, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway. The driver did not display any signs of impairment.
The man was also cited for second-degree criminal mischief, and failure to drive within a lane. He was released after the citation was issued. A towing company arrived to assist the driver with the vehicle.
