Roseburg Police jailed a man for an alleged eluding incident on Thursday.
An RPD report said at 1:15 p.m. officers observed 32-year-old Codi Neifert commit a traffic violation near Northwest Garden Valley Boulevard and Northwest Eden Street. Officers attempted to stop the driver, but Neifert’s vehicle proceeded onto Interstate 5, traveling northbound. The officer had lights and siren activated but the driver began to elude.
The officer did not pursue the sedan, due to traffic, but witnessed Neifert take the Winchester exit 129 and turn east on Northwest Edenbower Boulevard. The vehicle reportedly ran the stop sign at the congested intersection. The sedan was seen turning northbound on Northwest Aviation Drive. It was finally located in the 3000 block of Joseph Street, north of Roseburg. It had been wrecked and was partially in a ditch, and witnesses described where the male had fled to.
Additional officers and deputies with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene along with a K9. Neifert was located and taken into custody without incident. He was charged with attempting to elude a police officer in a vehicle, wreckless driving, and recklessly endangering another person. Neifert was held without bail. His sedan was impounded.
