A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through 5:00 a.m. Saturday for mountain areas in parts of southern Oregon.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said snow is expected, which could be heavy at times. Snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches are forecast, except locally up to 2 feet around Crater Lake. Winds will be gusting as high as 45 miles per hour.
The Advisory area includes elevations above 5,000 feet in the south-central Oregon Cascades. This includes Crater Lake, Willamette Pass on Highway 58 and areas near Diamond Lake Junction on highways 230 and 138.
Forecasters said travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact commute times. Gusty winds could bring down tree branches.
Snowfall rates of one-half inch per hour or less are expected for Friday but could reach one inch per hour at times Friday night through early Saturday morning.
