March 18, 2025 10:00 a.m.

An Azalea man was jailed for an alleged strangulation incident on Monday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said the victim, suspect and witness were all drinking at the victim’s house in the 400 block of Hogum Creek Road in the Azalea area at approximately 8:20 p.m.

The 69-year-old suspect allegedly made inappropriate comments to the victim and was giving unwanted details. The victim reportedly rejected him, causing the suspect to become angry and suddenly attack her. The victim was allegedly thrown to the ground, strangled twice for approximately 20 seconds each time, and had a pain level of 7 during the altercation.

The suspect left in his vehicle prior to the arrival of law enforcement. The victim claimed that she was unable to breathe during the incident and wanted to pursue charges.

The suspect was located parked in front of a residence and was allegedly obviously intoxicated. He had scratches from the victim on his face and dried streams of blood that ran down his face. The man denied ever choking the victim or having any altercation on his end. He also denied making inappropriate comments, but the report said it was clear from his story that he was not being completely truthful.

H was charged with strangulation and harassment and was detained without bail.
