Over 6,600 customers of Pacific Power and Douglas Electric Cooperative were without power at the peak of Monday’s storms.

Pacific Power Regional Business Manager Sam Carter said the outages began around midday when the windstorm and rainstorm came through the Umpqua Valley. Carter said around 2,500 customers were without power at peak of the outage. The largest outage was in the Winchester and Garden Valley area where 850 customers were without power until 3:00 a.m. Tuesday.

Douglas Electric Cooperative Chief Operating Officer Phil Biglar said their outage count peaked at 4,150. Biglar said the first outage was at Tenmile Lake at 11:30 a.m. From there, outages spread to all members west of Elkton, extending to Loon Lake and Ash Valley. This was followed by outages affecting all members served by their Yoncalla, Oakland and Fair Oaks substations. Later, a feeder in Drain was lost, cutting off power to members in the Curtin area. A few dozen members were still without power in the Loon Lake and Ash Valley areas as of midday Tuesday.

The National Weather Service said the peak wind gust in Roseburg was 37 miles per hour, measured at 3:30 p.m. Monday.
