A Winston woman died in a single vehicle wreck on Thursday afternoon.
An Oregon State Police report said at 3:15 p.m. troopers responded to the accident on Highway 138E, near milepost 5.3, just over 5 miles east of Roseburg.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a sedan, operated by 36-year-old Jessica Rae Thompson, was traveling eastbound when it veered off the south side of the road and struck the embankment. The vehicle went airborne, rolled over and came to rest down the embankment.
Thompson was ejected from the sedan and was declared deceased at the scene. Thompson is not believed to have been wearing a seatbelt. Speed and impairment are believed to have been factors in the crash.
The highway was closed for approximately three hours during the on-scene investigation.
OSP was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.
