The Sutherlin Throwdown is happening Saturday and Sunday.
Held in Central Park, the event will feature a barbecue competition, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, with up to 40 teams competing for $10,000 in prize money. The cornhole competition with up to 150 teams, will be happening concurrently with the barbecue cookoff, fueling the teams for this Southern Oregon Cornhole sponsored tourney, all vying for a $5,000 purse. The third component is a Brew Fest with 20 regional breweries and wineries all offering a perfect pairing for the barbecue.
Weekend festivities also feature a concert by the band The KOZ, Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. on the multiuse stage in Central Park.
Proceeds from the Sutherlin Throwdown will benefit a “Made for Trades” scholarship. The intention is to develop relationships with local businesses and schools, and create job fairs in the county, to provide opportunities for students considering careers in the trades.
Hours for the event are 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday and 10:00 a.m. to 6;00 p.m. Sunday.
