A transient was jailed following a trespass incident on Tuesday night.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 7:30 p.m. a deputy was dispatched to a report of a trespass at a location where a man was banging on the door and making threats in the 1700 block of Kendall Street, near Roseburg.

The deputy received an update that shots had been fired but it was unknown who had drawn a weapon. The suspect identified as 41-year-old Randy Thoms began walking away when the deputy arrived. The deputy drew his weapon and gave Thoms commands at gunpoint. The man continued to walk away telling the deputy he would not do as he was being instructed. He instead cussed at the deputy and told him to die.

A standoff ensued until Thoms heard other deputies getting close at which point he started to walk away again. Another deputy deployed a taser, which was minimally effective, leaving the suspect standing. The first deputy was then able to take Thoms to the ground after a struggle.

The deputy learned from the victims that the man had been making threats to them, before breaking a window and trying to enter their house. The male victim fired a shot and stopped the entry, at the same time the first deputy arrived on the scene.

Thoms was charged with first-degree burglary, three counts of menacing, resisting arrest, second-degree counts of disorderly conduct, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. Thoms was detained without bail.
