The United Community Action Network is one of nine community action agencies statewide that is participating in a new diaper distribution program.
A UCAN release said The Community Action Partnership of Oregon and PDX Diaper Bank were awarded a 2-year, $1.2 million grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services to offer diapers for distribution through community action agencies. The first delivery of over 600,000 diapers arrived at agencies in April, with regular deliveries scheduled for the next two years.
UCAN Executive Director Shaun Pritchard said, “This is just another example of how UCAN is helping our low-income families”. Pritchard said, “Between our home health nursing program for children, our WIC program, our Head Start program, our county wide nutrition distribution system, and now the diaper distribution program, UCAN continues to make critical investments in our County’s most resource, our children”.
UCAN is distributing diapers through its WIC program. Families are eligible for diapers if they have at least one child in WIC or can otherwise show a specific need for free diapers. Parents and guardians should call first to 440-3646 to ensure that they are eligible and to place their order for diapers. Diapers are then made available at UCAN’s office on Kenneth Ford Drive. Families can get up to 200 diapers or 150 pull-ups per month, based on availability. UCAN has distributed over 115,500 diapers to over 450 families in the past 3 months.
