In the KQEN Cultural Spotlight:
Music on the Half Shell has announced the concerts for the summer of 2024.
Founded in 1992, MOTHS has grown to become one of the premier summer music events in the Pacific Northwest. The series is held on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. at Nichols Band Shell in Roseburg’s Stewart Park. There will be eight shows this year.
The lineup features:
*June 18th- Jon Cleary & The Absolute Monster Gentlemen: A New Orleans based group that embraces R&B, gospel, and funk.
*June 25th- The Paperboys: A genre-bending band from Canada that blends Celtic folk with bluegrass, Mexican, Eastern European, African, zydeco, soul and country influences.
*July 2nd- Bombino” Omar “Bombino” Moctar is a singer-songwriter guitarist from Niger. He is the first Grammy nominated musician from that country. He is known for his Saharan rock, blues, and Taureg music.
*July 9th- The Rumble: The second band to come from New Orleans this year. They bring a modern high-energy funky style to the stage.
*July 16- DakhaBrakha: The group performed at Half Shell in 2018. The world-music quartet is from Ukraine and presents fundamental elements of sound and soul.
*July 23- Ian Moore: American guitarist and singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas. He carries influences of The Beatles, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder and Sly & The Family Stone
*July 30- I Draw Slow: One of the most unique bands on the Americana scene. The group is based in Dubin, Ireland and sits at the crossroads of Irish and Appalachian music.
*Aug 6- Paul McDonald:. American singer-songwriter based in Nashville. After a successful run as a finalist on American Idol in 2011, McDonald’s band has enjoyed growing popularity.
Half Shell concerts feature a variety of food trucks to provide dinner. Attendees can also bring their own meal, along with wine or beer.
