A Yoncalla man was jailed on the charges of second-degree kidnapping, fourth-degree assault, strangulation, coercion, and a parole violation Thursday afternoon.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said just before 1:00 a.m. dispatchers received an open 911 call. A female could be heard telling a man to let her out. Units responded to the 200 block of Applegate Road in the Yoncalla area, where a deputy contacted an individual who stated that the deputy should go and help the victim. He said the suspect was going crazy and would not let the victim out of a vehicle.
The deputy contacted the man’s parole officer who requested the suspect be arrested for a parole violation as he is not allowed to be around the woman. Units were unable to locate the subjects.
The deputy called the woman numerous times and she finally answered. When asked where she was at, she stated “around” and hung up on the deputy. The woman did not seem to be in distress and refused to answer any questions. The suspect was not located.
At 5:00 p.m. the deputy contacted the man at the same location. He was identified as 32-year-old Jordan Cox. Cox was questioned about the incident. He stated that the victim was never in his vehicle, and he had not been around her. A family member told the deputy that the victim was in Cox’s room and that the suspect was lying. Cox was taken into custody.
The victim stated that she was scared and when law enforcement showed up the man grabbed her by the fingers. She tried to get away but claimed that Cox pulled her up the street. The woman said during the earlier incident the pair was near a business in Rice Hill. She said that Cox was freaking out, and she tried to get out of the car. The man allegedly reached over and slammed the door, locking it and saying she was not leaving. Cox then reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed. The victim stated that she tried to get him to stop and even thought about jumping out. She felt trapped and said that Cox took the option of getting out away.
The victim also showed the deputy photos of an incident on March 7th. At that time, the woman had bruising around her jaw and around her neck. She stated that Cox had punched her with a closed fist and then got on top of her and choked her out. She said in that incident she was unable to breathe.
Cox was charged with detained on $25,000 bail.
