The Bureau of Land Management is developing plans to restore and improve recreation areas along the North Umpqua River and Rock Creek.

Cheyne Rossbach from the BLM said these sites were heavily damaged by the 2020 Archie Creek Fire. Rossbach said the BLM will host open house meetings in the area, inviting the public to provide feedback on the project proposals.

Swiftwater Field Manager Michael Korn said, “Robust public participation will help the BLM develop strong restoration and redevelopment proposals. We look forward to hearing from the community on our preliminary plans”.

Rossbach said the proposals include addressing visitor parking capacity and safety issues, expanding camping opportunities for recreational vehicles and identifying trail opportunities that will be available to the public.

The meetings will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

*Thursday October 19th at the Millpond Recreation Area

*Friday October 20th at the Susan Creek Day Use Area

*Saturday October 21st at the Swiftwater Trailhead- South

The open houses will not include a formal presentation. The public can attend at anytime during the open house hours to learn more about the project. BLM staff will be available to discuss relevant site considerations, provide an overview of the preliminary proposals and provide the public with an early opportunity to help the BLM identify issues that the plans seek to address.
