RIDDLE MAN JAILED FOR REPORTED ASSAULT

A Riddle man was jailed for a reported assault late Friday afternoon.

A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office report said at 5:00 p.m. the suspect and a victim were involved in a physical altercation in the 300 block of Pickett Lane in Canyonville. During the incident, the suspect allegedly exited his vehicle and pulled out a large knife similar to a machete. A witness said the man confronted the victim with the knife in his hand and then struck the victim in the face with the handle of the knife. This caused the victim to fall backwards hitting his head on the concrete rendering him unconscious.

The witness said the suspect continued to strike the victim in the face approximately ten times with his right hand which was still holding the knife. The victim reportedly received significant injuries to his face and a laceration to the back of his head from hitting the concrete.

The 64-year old suspect was taken into custody without incident. He was charged with first-degree assault and harassment. The man was detained without bail.
