Crews with the Douglas Forest Protective Association are dealing with the Cedar Creek Fire, in the Callahan Mountains, approximately fourteen miles northwest of Roseburg.
DFPA Public Information Officer Rachel Pope said a smoke column was spotted by a detection camera Sunday afternoon at about 5:15 p.m. Pope said DFPA’s responding air attack was first on the scene and estimated the fire to be between five and ten acres, located in a fell and buck timber on private property.
As of Sunday evening, Pope said six engines, two squads, two dozers, one tender, two helicopters and a fixed-wing aircraft were performing an aggressive initial attack. Pope said dozers were making good progress with additional crews from the Coos Forest Protective Association also responding to the scene.
Several reports of drift smoke have come in from around the area of the fire. No homes or structures were threatened, as of Sunday evening.
An updated report is expected sometime Monday morning.
